Literally Farm to Table - Enjoy Fine Dining at Granor Farm
Granor Farm is not only an operating organic farm just up the road from Garden Grove Inn, but they also host sublime dinners on the farm allowing you to literally taste the fruits (and vegetables) of their labor. Plan ahead, as tickets go fast, but the meal and the experience are totally worth it!
Putt with a Drink in Hand at Welter's Folly at Journeyman
Some travel to Scotland for the Golf & Whiskey pairing, others simply travel 10 minutes Southeast to Three Oaks. Journeyman Distillery stands in what used to be the old Featherbone Factory. Journeyman left this historic landmark largely intact, but out back added a 30,000 sq-ft putting green. Welter’s Folly, inspired by the greens of St. Andrews in Scotland, is one of the ten largest putting greens in the world. Grab a drink and a putter – $9 for the night – and head out back. You can also watch whiskey distilling and grab a bite inside or on the back patio.
Take a hike!
Visit Verdant Hollow Farm in Buchanan on a weekend morning where you can join their lovely goats on a hike. The one-hour hike will take you through pasture and woodlands with their herd of goats...a fun way to interact with these lovely creatures in their favorite environment!
Peat’s Cider Social is a favorite among locals and travelers alike. Occupying a 1960’s bowling alley, Peat’s taproom has a posh vibe that incorporates contemporary elements with the original mid-century modern aesthetic. There are 16 bowling lanes, but if you have to wait on a busier weekend night (they’re first come first serve), you can look forward to sipping on some of their 10 draught ciders. Peat’s is outfitted with a recently-updated patio, an arcade, and some light snacks, though you are welcome to bring your own food.
Catch a Show at the Acorn
The Acorn hosts a variety of performances in its tucked away space next to Journeyman Distillery. Artists big & small grace the stage, and there is not a bad seat in the house! You can reserve tickets online, or walk up to their box office for smaller events. Inside you’ll find a full bar featuring crafty cocktails, light snacks, and a substantial beer list.
Cruise Lake Michigan at Sunset
Harbor Country Adventures are in the business of giving you a nice evening on Lake Michigan. For $35, hop aboard their Sunset Cruise from the harbor in Michigan City, IN, 20 minutes South. The stunning views are accompanied by a full bar and a backdrop of live entertainment on the upper deck. From the lower deck, you can hear guided narration about the lake and land. You’ll set sail on the Emita II at 7:00 and return at 9:00. Please note that Michigan City is on Central Time.
Get Nostalgic with a Float
Mikey’s Drive In is a longstanding institution for Southwest Michiganders. You’ll feel very retro pulling into Mikey’s, especially if it’s a historic car “Cruise Night.” While the menu is traditional–sticking to burgers, dogs fries, floats, and shakes–they sure do it right. After grabbing a bite, check out Grand Mere State Park just up the road, or Warren Dunes State Park on the way back.
