Just a short drive from Chicago, Michigan's Harbor Country is one of the best places to enjoy the outdoors. And, seeing the sites on two wheels can't be beat!
Harbor Country is home to the annual Apple Cider Century bike ride every September. Riders can choose to participate in a 15, 25, 50, 75 or 100 mile bicycle tour of the vineyards, orchards, forests and fields of the area. If you enjoy riding, this is a bucket-list ride! Not only does the Three Oaks Spokes put on this marvelous event, but they also maintain the Backroads Bikeway trails which include 20 self-guided tours on paved area roads ranging from 5 to 60 miles. Included here is a map of some of the local trails you can access out our front door.
We also have a few other incoming projects that continue to expand the range of safe cycling in this area.
- The Harbor Country Hike & Bike Trail project is set to bring 36 miles of trails that allow bicyclists and hikers the ability to connect between New Buffalo, Three Oaks, Sawyer, Grand Beach, Harbert, Union Pier, Michiana, and points in between using safe, convenient, attractive paths and shared access ways.
- The Berrien County Road Department and Chikaming and New Buffalo Townships completed the first phase of the Red Arrow Highway Linear Park! The trailhead is just .5 miles from Garden Grove and currently runs about one mile South and one mile North (with planned expansions). This protected sidewalk makes traversing Union Pier along Red Arrow Highway safe & easy - with access to our wonderful neighbors such as Seedz Brewery, Timothy's, Red Arrow Roadhouse, Black Currant Bakehouse and Whistle Stop Grocery.
- Currently, Route 35 runs from New Buffalo all the way to Sault Ste. Marie. And, with the completion of the Marquette Greenway, trails from New Buffalo will connect right into Chicago!
So, when you visit Garden Grove Inn, don't forget to pack your bike. Or, get one here! We offer guests the use of two "cruiser" bicycles perfect to take to the beach or the local wine tasting rooms. And, just a half-mile up the street, you can rent bikes from Red Arrow Ride. Either way, we have bike parking on site, and are excited for you to enjoy the area on two wheels!
